Clyde puts you close to the wine, the trails, Lake Dunstan and Earnscleugh Castle, while still giving you a village to come back to at night.

Wine close by, with Bannockburn about half an hour away.

The Otago Central Rail Trail and Lake Dunstan Trail both start close to Clyde village. Bike hire is about 70 metres from the home, with shuttle operators nearby, e-bike charging at the property and four included off-street car parks.

Otago Central Rail Trail

New Zealand's first rail trail follows the old railway line from Clyde to Middlemarch. Many guests use Clyde as the start, finish or base for a day ride to Alexandra.

Lake Dunstan Trail

A newer Great Ride from Clyde to Cromwell, following Lake Dunstan and the Cromwell Gorge. It is a strong full-day ride with shuttle options available.

For longer stays, Clyde is a useful base for day trips in several directions.

    A small historic town reached over Tiger Hill, good for a slower inland Otago drive.

  • Wānaka

    An easy day trip via Cromwell for the lakefront, shops and restaurants.

  • Queenstown and Arrowtown

    83 km · 1 hr

    Close enough for a day trip or lunch stop, especially if you are flying through Queenstown.

Add Earnscleugh Castle to the trip.

Earnscleugh Castle is a short drive from Clyde and can be part of the same Central Otago stay. Clyde on Sunderland works well for the village nights, trail days and group time around it.

  1. Night 1. Arrive in Clyde, settle into the home and walk to dinner on Sunderland Street.
  2. Day 2. Ride part of the Rail Trail or Lake Dunstan Trail, then return to the home for dinner in the village.
  3. Day 3. Visit Earnscleugh Castle, Lake Dunstan or Bannockburn before a slower final night in Clyde.

  1. Nights 1-2. Walk Clyde, ride from the trailhead and give the group time to settle into the home.
  2. Day 3. Plan Earnscleugh Castle, Bannockburn wineries or a lake day.
  3. Nights 4-5. Add Cromwell, Wānaka, Ophir or Queenstown as day trips without changing accommodation.
